The New 21st Century Jobs

Chief Experience Officer and Other Dream Jobs That May Not Have Existed 6 Months Ago

Chief Experience Officer (CXO) may be a new job title, but the concept is as old as the idea of sales; however the execution is entirely different. A CXO  make it a point that internal and external stakeholders possess the “feel good” attitude towards the company. They keep their ear to the ground on the entire customer interaction process. Essentially, the role demands hi-level quality control for user experience—both external and within the company.

To ensure the entire process is smooth, external changes are recommended, such as adding alternative suppliers closer to customer’s homes. But the CXO remains just as focused on internal changes. They pay close attention to what employees are feeling, asking, and/or needing to improve upon.

Because, at the end of the day, how employees feel about their work does reflect in the service they provide to customers and the innovation they contribute to a company. The CXO acts as the lynchpin between monitoring customer feedback, quality control, and human resources.

According to Harvard Business Review, the position is not only about finding areas of improvement, but also about stimulating growth. It’s knowing customers and detecting their wants and needs and translating that into new business opportunities, possible acquisitions, or changing product strategy.

Chief Experience Officer is only one amongst the wave of new jobs that are  being created in this era of modernity. These jobs may be unprecedented and a bit unusual, but they are rapidly becoming a key differentiator, a bespoke expert on a company’s product and/or service. Along with CXO, here are a few other new jobs this brave new world brings:

    Millennial Generational Expert

In 2015, Millennials surpassed Gen Xers as the largest generation in the American labor force. It’s essential companies understand how the majority of their employees tick and how to harness their generational tendencies into productive outputs.

This is one of the jobs that research from economist David Powell at Rand Corp., a nonprofit policy organisation, may refer to, “We have more older worker-friendly jobs than we’re used to”. *** An expert does not have to be a Millennial; most have spent decades in the work force and now are channeling their management experience with young people into a consulting companies how they best work with this burgeoning group.

    Emoji Translator

Global translation firm, Today Translations, put out the world’s first job advertisement for an Emoji Translator in November 2016. With emoji’s becoming a part of communication, it’s important to know exactly how different emojis are meant in varying cultures and contexts. For example, the emoji entitled “face with tears of joy” is used by Westerners to convey laughter; in the Middle East, the symbol is used to express grief.

    Chief Listening Officer

Kodak hired Beth LaPierre as the first ever Chief Listening Officer in 2010. During her tenure, LaPierre engrossed herself on monitoring when and where Kodak was mentioned on social media channels, blogs, and anywhere else on the World Wide Web.

From her extensive date gathering, LaPierre would relay her insight to department heads and managers. Given “engagement” is a focal point in the company-customer exchange, the first step remains to listen. Hiring a person to only listen is essential in beginning a meaningful conversation and relationship.

    Influencer Agent

With the rise of social media, so came the meteoric rise of ordinary individuals who became well-known through a social media channels, known as “Influencers”. One of the new jobs that have derived from the new business is Influencer agencies. These agencies have a network of “Youtubers”, “Insta-famous”, or other social media stars signed to work with them.

For brands, agencies are responsible for finding the most suited Influencer. For an Influencer, it’s vital that the brand aligns with their public image and, together, create a successful campaign.

The world is changing fast and the names and creations of new jobs is evolving even faster.
But can you judge which jobs actually exist and which jobs are nonsense?
