Vice President / Chief Operating Officer (VP/COO) - Japanese Bilingual

Job Summary:

The VP or COO / Japan Market Sales Director of Freight Forwarding is responsible for the strategic direction, operations, and growth of the Freight Forwarding division across North America. Reporting to the President & CEO, this role focuses on business development, particularly with Japan-related customers, and leads the development and execution of integrated operational strategies. Key responsibilities include driving critical growth initiatives, managing financial performance, overseeing day-to-day operations, and ensuring strong customer relationships. The role requires collaboration with global teams and participation in top management activities, such as budget planning and mid-term business strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement business strategies to drive growth and efficiency in North American operations.
  • Lead and manage the Freight Forwarding division, ensuring operational excellence and profitability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Japan HQ, global group companies, and key customers.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial tracking, and performance monitoring with KPIs.
  • Drive business development initiatives, focusing on both Automobile and Non-Automobile sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and corporate policies.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in freight forwarding/logistics, with at least 5 years in managerial roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, HR, or related fields; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage P&L, develop business strategies, and drive growth.
  • Fluency in English; Japanese bilingual skills preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $180-200K + performance-based bonus
