Our location in St. Paul, MN currently has an opportunity for a Site Reliability Engineering Manager for a global project. This position is in the Product Technology group and will be working in a SOC2, ISO27001, and highly sensitive and secure environment providing platforms and services that Abbott business partners can leverage to enable connected products (IoT) as well as product customers and clinicians.    

Site Reliability Engineering Manager’s primary functions:

  • Directs, manages, plans and administers the operational and administrative activities of the Site Reliability Engineering section for hosting the global solutions.
  • Manages staff responsible for all phases of the continuous monitoring and response processes.
  • Technical lead and contributor until the team is fully established and scaling effectively.
  • Platform owner for tooling specific to the monitoring and response processes
  • Responsible for disaster recovery monitoring and testing as well as BCP inputs.
  • Responsible for enabling Tier 1 support for platforms through documentation, training, etc.
  • Responsible for Tier 1 work when not defined and accepted for Tier 1 support team.
  • Responsible for proposing new designs that meet architecture principles and obtaining approvals.
  • Responsible for settings security and compliance guardrails/controls on platforms
  • Responsible for scaling configuration monitoring of Product Technology owned services.
  • Responsible for partnering with DevSecOps, Shared Services Engineering, PMs, and other Product Technology and internal business partner application teams as appropriate.
  • Define and create test cases, execute test activities and report on progress.
  • Monitor, make visible, and enforce SLOs for each PT Shared Service and/or Platform via input from platform owners
  • Own ad-hoc maintenance execution, tracking, and reporting (including for compliance purposes)
  • Create actionable alerts for teams driven via code.
  • Identify tasks and processes requiring automation, develop and implement solutions.
  • Ensure backups are running and tested while also implementing monitoring, tracking, and alerting.
  • Work with DevOps to identify improvements and prioritize solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation and training material for developed solutions.
  • Participate in remediation efforts in a coordinating role and conduct postmortems & reporting.
  • Identify resource types that require scaling and partner with engineering teams to enabling scaling with code if required.
  • Anything a team member can do that contributes to enhanced system reliability and availability is within scope. Anything that does not contribute to that bottom line is out of scope. 
  • Responsible for ensuring NoOps tools, utilities, and processes run with potential for owning NoOps creation in the future.


  • Passion for IT, Infrastructure and core/shared services, including security systems, networking, etc.
  • Work with Azure and Azure PaaS services
  • Work in Waterfall and Agile project planning and executing work on sprint cycles.
  • Determine technical objectives of assignments. Exercise latitude in approach to solutioning
  • Lead with Automation in testing or orchestration for coordination with Engineering and DevOps
  • Lead scripting and other similar automation capabilities, consuming REST APIs and JSON data
  • Manage vendor relationships along with procurement and Product Technology Operations
  • Mentor and career develop the team as the subject matter expert (SME) and manager.
  • Partner with SMEs with networking components, primarily firewalls and load-balancers/reverse proxies such F5 LTM/GTM, Palo Altos, or Azure native services
  • Partner with staff and work with core/shared services such as Active Directory, DNS/Infoblox, RHEL, Windows Server, Artifactory, SMTP relays, etc.
  • Refine conceptual system requirements into a technical design consisting of job flows and requirements.
  • Understand customers’ business objectives and system requirements and work closely with customers to determine their strategic requirements and measure performance against expectations. Assist in customer resolutions.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of new developments in technologies and making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Will apply certification and Product Security policies and standards when performing all duties.



  • Degree in computer science, networking or related IT field and 7+ years' experience or 10+ years of equivalent IT experience including working with global teams.
  • 3+ years of combined technical team lead and manager experience including disaster recovery and incident response site monitoring.
  • Experience with tools such as Terraform, Git, Gitlab, Splunk
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scripting languages (AZ command line, PowerShell etc.)
  • Experience with software development best practices and knowledgeable in CI/CD
  • General exposure to how key networking components operate/function, primarily firewalls and load-balancers/reverse proxies such F5 LTM/GTM or Azure native services.


  • 2+ years of Azure exposure/experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Professional IT certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Supervisory responsibility:

  • Leading a team of 3+ members

The base pay for this position is $90,700.00 – $181,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
