By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. Key Responsibilities:

This position will lead a team that oversees domestic and/or international environmental requirements and sustainability within United's operations. You will support the company’s global environmental strategy, policies and programs by collaborating with both internal and external collaborators. The responsibilities are as follows -

  • Assist with the development and implementation of an environmental strategic plan that drives continual improvements, which in turn, drives progress towards United's environmental goals. This includes, but is not limited to, data collection, analysis, reporting, and implementation of various environmental requirement and sustainability initiatives
  • The strategic plan will drive environmental requirements and sustainability initiatives and monitoring the effectiveness of these initiatives by collecting data, analysis, reporting and tracking progress towards goals
  • Communicate progress and opportunities, including the achievement of pre-determined milestones, associated with your strategic plan to station leadership
  • Be responsible for a team of environmental professionals to support United's environmental management system. This includes the development and implementation of compliance plans and oversight of compliance activity
  • Ensure compliance with air, water, waste, hazardous material internal and external requirements and policies across varying company operations
  • Support United's environmental management information system with data collection, analysis and reporting, including supporting our internal controls to monitor compliance with both internal and external policies and regulations
  • Assist with the performance of audits and timely implementation of audit finding corrective actions (including actions of other responsible parties at facility)
  • Assist your team and operations with necessary corrective action from incidents and regulatory activity and engage with regulatory agencies
  • Establish team and individual goals that align with departmental goals
  • Oversee direct reports’ and self’s individual performance and improvement plans
  • Coach, counsel, and assist employees to develop individual career development and training plans
  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s objectives and initiatives
  • Be solution-oriented and committed to a creating and sustaining a culture of continual improvement and innovation
  • Model integrity, possess self-awareness and foster an environment of accountability
  • Providing transparent communication to their Team, Leadership and Stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop a team that is empowered and engaged in the mission of the Environmental Affairs Department
  • Support other duties as assigned

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable environmental work experience with general understanding of environmental regulations
  • At least 7 years of environmental experience
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations such as, but not limited to CWA, CAA, RCRA, SPCC and TSCA
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and PowerPoint
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Masters degree in business or environmental management or related area
  • Airline and/or aviation experience
  • Management experience with direct reports
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related to the aviation industry
