Responsibilities

  • Provide expert underwriting decisions to balance profitability with business placement
  • Serve as a product and underwriting SME through field training and partner education
  • Deliver exceptional service and consult with agents, brokers, and field staff on underwriting and risk matters
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to support customer understanding and outcomes
  • Assess risks and gather information to make sound decisions in complex/ambiguous situations
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders through communication and collaboration
  • Drive process improvements and support operational excellence
  • Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters and provide technical guidance

Key requirements

  • 5+ years of underwriting individual disability insurance
  • $15K+ approval authority in IDI underwriting
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Experience in fast-paced environments (preferred)
  • Industry designation exams in progress (e.g., DIA/DIF, AALU/FALU, FMLI) (preferred)
