In this role you provide genetic counseling for cancer patients and families, guiding them through inheritance, risk assessment, testing options, and results. You collaborate with the oncology team to select clinically appropriate tests and help plan patient care. You support patients with resources and education, and you interpret complex genetic results for the medical staff. You work within a multidisciplinary Cancer Center, contributing to protocols, outreach, and staff education while advancing patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Provide cancer risk assessment and genetic counseling for individuals and families at risk for inherited cancer predisposition
- Assist oncology team in cost-conscious test selection
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to establish an appropriate care plan and provide expert genetic counseling input
- Support patients in identifying medical and non-medical resources
- Assist physicians with interpretation of complex genetic test results
- Participate in development and updating of department protocols
- Educate referring providers and participate in outreach, cancer conferences, and committees
- Provide medical staff education and contribute to general operations of the genetics program
Key requirements
- Board Certified or Board Eligible for ABGC certification (preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of clinical cancer genetic counseling experience
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program
- Deep knowledge of cancer genetics; strong assessment and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication; relationship-building, negotiation, advocacy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and handle stressful situations
- Knowledge of oncology healthcare operational and financial environments (preferred)
