In this role you will own Philo's analytics engineering layer, turning raw event and application data into clean, trusted data products. You will design dimensional models, govern key metrics, and ensure semantic consistency across the data stack. You will partner with Finance, Product, Marketing, Ad Sales, and Engineering to translate business questions into scalable dbt models and data products. This high-impact role supports Philo's data-driven decision making and the evolution of our semantic/metric layer and governance.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain core dimensional models and data marts in dbt
- Define and govern key business metrics and KPIs
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Product, Marketing, Ad Sales, Content to translate questions into data products
- Establish best practices for dbt project structure, model design, documentation, and testing
- Build and maintain data documentation and a data catalog for self-serve analytics
- Implement and maintain data quality checks and monitoring (dbt tests, BigEye, etc.)
- Optimize query performance and Snowflake cost through model design and incremental processing
- Collaborate with data engineers on pipeline design and data ingestion
- Drive alignment on data definitions and single source of truth across teams
- Contribute to the evolution of Philo's data platform strategy around semantic/metrics layer and governance
Key requirements
- 8+ years in analytics engineering or data modeling with production dbt
- Deep expertise in SQL and dbt with advanced modeling patterns
- Experience with BI tools using semantic layers (Mode, Looker, Omni, SSAS Cubes)
- Strong Snowflake experience including performance tuning and cost optimization
- Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into clean data models
- Experience defining and governing business metrics and KPIs
- Strong communication skills; able to explain decisions to executives and engineers
- Ownership mindset focused on data accuracy, documentation, and testing
- Experience with data quality and observability tools (BigEye, Elementary, dbt tests, Great Expectations)
