Senior Specialist / Project Manager

As a Site Civil Engineer in HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you help design and plan civil site work for diverse projects, from data-center campuses to commercial environments. You will balance technical rigor with collaboration, guiding calculations, specifications, and permitting efforts to deliver sustainable infrastructure. You’ll work closely with clients and agencies, leading or supporting mid-size projects and mentoring junior staff. This role offers a chance to contribute to innovative, high-impact facilities within an employee-owned culture that values inclusion and practical engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan site civil work for diverse projects, including layouts, grading, drainage, paving, utilities, and related activities
  • Perform quantity calculations and prepare calculation reports
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Handle complex design tasks and select/modify standard engineering methods
  • Function as Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed (PM not sole focus)
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Conduct site due diligence, zoning and permitting for local/state agencies
  • Manage project and permitting coordination with agencies
  • Coordinate site design with clients, agencies, and project team
  • Collaborate in a team environment
  • Perform other duties as needed

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 5 years of experience in general site civil engineering
  • Proficient with OpenRoads and CAD civil software (Autodesk Civil 3D; HydroCAD, Hydraflow Extensions)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven leadership and ability to participate in employee-owned culture
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Local candidates preferred
