Experteer Overview
In this role, you advance and replenish Amgen’s therapeutic pipeline through data science and mechanistic disease biology. You will build methods and platforms to accelerate target discovery, prioritization, and validation in a cross-functional research setting. You’ll design an automated, scalable Precision Targeting Engine and evolve the preclinical omics data ecosystem. You will explore AI/ML approaches and help embed ARIA outputs into integrated R&D platforms, while mentoring colleagues.

Responsibilities
- Develop and apply methods to discover, prioritize, and validate targets across diseases and modalities
- Design and build a Precision Targeting Engine integrating internal and high-value public data
- Contribute to the design and evolution of the preclinical omics data ecosystem with Research Informatics
- Evaluate and incorporate AI/ML technologies (e.g., foundation models) to accelerate early pipeline work
- Partner with data science and IT teams to embed ARIA tools into integrated R&D platforms
- Train and mentor scientists in advanced research tools and platforms
Key requirements
- PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, or related discipline (or relevant post-doc); or Master’s with 3+ years; or Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant research experience
- Strong programming in Python and R; Linux/Unix; cloud computing; HPC; Git
- Experience developing computational tools and visualizations translating biology into actionable strategies
- Experience building pipelines and workflows (e.g., Nextflow); CI/CD practices; interactive visualization (Shiny/Streamlit)
- Background in molecular and systems biology; single-cell omics data analysis
- Experience with transcriptional foundation models, LLMs, and biomedical knowledge graphs
- Familiarity with public data resources (DepMap, Human Cell Atlas, TCGA, GTEx, Tahoe-100M) to enhance analyses
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; collaboration and continuous learning mindset
