In this role you will lead FEM-based optimization of mattresses, bed frames, and accessories, shaping the future of sleep products. You will develop simulation strategies across the product lifecycle and introduce advanced modeling and AI-assisted optimization. You’ll run hands-on tests in our in-house lab, collaborate with suppliers, and mentor junior engineers. This is a high-impact, innovation-driven position within a globally growing D2C sleep brand.

Responsibilities
- Lead FEM-based optimization projects for mattresses, bed frames, and accessories
- Develop and implement simulation strategies across concept to production
- Introduce new technologies such as non-linear material modeling, multiphysics simulations, and AI-assisted optimization
- Create detailed test plans for FEM analysis, data acquisition, model calibration, and correlation studies
- Perform hands-on mechanical testing, material analysis, and prototype validation in-house
- Tear down products to analyze design, material properties, and structural integrity
- Collaborate with suppliers on specifications and issue resolution
- Act as SME in material properties, 3D CAD design, and FEM pre-/post-processing
- Mentor junior engineers and promote technical excellence
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality results aligned with project goals and customer expectations
Key requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in FEM, preferably in consumer product development or soft materials
- Advanced proficiency in FEA tools (Abaqus, HyperMesh, Solid Edge)
- Scripting experience in Python or MATLAB is a plus
- Strong background in nonlinear, transient, fatigue, thermomechanical FEM analyses
- Familiarity with soft materials (foam, elastomers, plastics, gels) in sleep products
- Solid understanding of FMEA and quality/risk assessment methodologies
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and autonomous working style
- Excellent communication; able to convey technical insights clearly
- Fluent in English; Chinese a plus; German beneficial
- Passion for innovation, teamwork, and product quality
