In this role you will lead North America’s environmental, health, and safety strategy and governance, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational integrity. You will steer regional EHS direction, partner with executive stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement to reduce risk and strengthen sustainability. You’ll influence enterprise decisions and embed EHS excellence into business planning and operations. You will work to build a safety- and environment-focused culture across the region.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the NA EHS strategy aligned with global priorities
- Translate corporate objectives into regional plans with measurable outcomes
- Ensure full compliance with U.S. and Canadian EHS regulations across all sites
- Oversee air, water, waste, chemical, and hazardous materials permitting and reporting
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to evaluate compliance and identify improvements
- Foster a culture of safety through employee engagement, training, and awareness programs
- Develop and manage regional EHS KPIs, dashboards, and leading indicators
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses with data-driven risk insights
- Support regional implementation of climate, waste, emissions, and energy goals
- Implement continuous improvement in EHS practices, processes, and training
- Serve as NA EHS representative to regulators, industry groups, and community partners
- Build leadership accountability for safe operations and workforce protection
Key requirements
- 10+ years of progressive ESH experience with leadership of complex North American operations
- Strong grasp of performance management, KPIs, leading indicators, and continuous improvement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for diverse audiences
- Ability to drive change and foster a safety/environmental culture
- Deep knowledge of U.S. and Canadian EHS regulations, standards, and compliance frameworks
- Ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable insights
- Experience in publicly traded or highly regulated global organizations
- Executive presence with ability to influence senior leaders and drive accountability
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing EHS teams
- Succession planning, capability building, and team alignment
- Sound judgment in ambiguous, time-sensitive situations
- Calm, decisive leadership during incidents or regulatory pressures
