In this role, you apply advanced modeling to downstream bioprocess challenges, delivering actionable insights to accelerate late-phase development. You lead frameworks that translate complex processes into mechanistic or hybrid models and work with cross-functional teams to embed modeling into development workflows. You will ensure model credibility for regulatory readiness and mentor colleagues across the DSP and modeling communities. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position at a leading biopharma company.

Responsibilities

Translate complex biopharmaceutical process problems into robust mechanistic or hybrid models to accelerate late-phase downstream development
Guide experimental design and data generation to support modeling efforts
Interpret results, supervise related activities, and perform advanced tasks without established procedures
Perform data wrangling, cleaning, and preprocessing to ensure high-quality datasets for modeling; design of experiments and statistical analysis
Communicate across interfaces; lead troubleshooting and transfer of know-how to other departments or external partners
Build and share modeling best practices; train and mentor others in tool usage and workflows
Collaborate with process experts, analytics, and data scientists to embed modeling in development workflows
Act as Functional Lead for DSP development projects and contribute to TRD strategies and goals
Ensure activities comply with quality, ethics, safety, and information security standards; drive continuous improvement
Prepare scientific documents for external partners and regulatory submissions; interact with authorities as needed
Mentor scientific associates; contribute to publications, presentations, and patents

Key requirements

Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Technology, Bioinformatics, or related fields
Strong foundation in process modeling (mechanistic, statistical, or hybrid)
Knowledge of DSP operations (chromatography, filtration, etc.)
Proficiency in R or Python; machine learning experience a plus
Hands-on experience with statistical discovery software (e.g., JMP)
Familiarity with app development frameworks (e.g., Shiny) and mathematical optimization
Hands-on laboratory experience for data generation
Strong communication and presentation skills
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Understanding of regulatory requirements and CMC development processes
