In this role you will lead reliability initiatives for critical grid automation products across the lifecycle, ensuring resilience, regulatory compliance, and lower field costs. You will collaborate with design, systems, and software teams to embed Design for Reliability from concept to deployment. You’ll tackle field data, perform rigorous analyses, and support grid modernization efforts with a focus on uptime and safe operation. This position offers the chance to influence standards, advance diagnostics, and work closely with utilities to improve asset performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reliability modeling and statistical analysis to predict field performance and guide reliability design decisions
  • Develop and execute reliability test plans for hardware and software, including HIL, environmental, and stress testing
  • Lead FMEA, FMECA, and Root Cause Analysis for hardware/software failures across embedded systems and communications layers
  • Collaborate with product design, systems engineering, and software teams to embed Design for Reliability throughout the lifecycle
  • Analyze deployed field data to identify systemic issues and recommend corrective actions
  • Support grid asset performance programs and modernization initiatives with utilities, including IEC 61850, virtualization, and advanced diagnostics
  • Develop and maintain reliability KPIs (MTBF, FIT rate, availability) and integrate into development and quality programs
  • Identify and promote predictive and condition-based maintenance using remote diagnostics, SCADA, and sensor data
  • Coordinate with the Innovation Office and Applications team to align reliability priorities with standards leadership and strategy
  • Stay current on regulatory requirements (NERC, IEEE, IEC) affecting asset reliability and cybersecurity
  • Provide coaching and guidance on reliability practices to internal teams and external stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in reliability, systems, or product engineering in the energy or utility sector
