In this leadership role you shape the strategic direction and growth of HED’s Life Sciences design practice, delivering compliant, innovative facilities for biotech, pharma, and medical devices. You will partner with the National Science and Technology team to drive design standards, market strategy, and cross-functional execution. You lead with vision to accelerate scientific breakthroughs while ensuring regulatory alignment and sustainable, scalable facilities. This is a high-impact, hybrid role that blends strategy, business development, and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the practice's strategic plan aligned with corporate goals
- Set design standards, best practices, and quality benchmarks for life science projects
- Monitor regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure compliance and innovation
- Develop a design vision aligned with the biotech mission to accelerate breakthroughs
- Establish best practices for facility design optimizing flexibility, scalability, and sustainability
- Oversee design execution for GMP/FDA/EMA-compliant facilities and global standards
- Lead proposals for new labs, pilot plants, and GMP manufacturing spaces
- Represent the company at biotech forums and thought leadership events
- Build and maintain client relationships to expand market share in life sciences
- Drive market strategy with Science and Technology team; define go-to-market offerings
- Mentor design teams across architecture, engineering, and process disciplines
- Set KPIs and monitor sector performance; manage annual plans and budgets
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver integrated, compliant solutions
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years in life sciences facility design
- At least 5 years in a leadership role
- Deep knowledge of GMP, FDA, EMA, and other regulatory requirements
- Proven track record in business development and client relationship management
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Exceptional business development, client relationship, and strategic planning skills
