As Research Architect in the Optics & Photonics group, you will develop cutting-edge photonic solutions and validate them for industrial lithography and metrology tools. You lead both experimental and theoretical work, defining architectures and driving feasibility towards clear conclusions. You collaborate across researchers and stakehholders to advance photonics technology in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting. This role offers the chance to shape photonics for ASML’s lithography and metrology platforms and work with academia and industry partners.

Responsibilities

Translate optical sensing concepts into photonic solutions for an industrial context
Define requirements, architecture and development needs for photonic solutions
Identify technology maturity levels and roadmap contributions
Design and specify photonic integrated circuits (PICs)
Define experiments for evaluating PICs
Collaborate with other researchers to deepen technology understanding
Generate new ideas and photonic solutions for current and future needs
Build networks across ASML and academia
Manage documentation and communication of results to stakeholders
Lead feasibility studies towards actionable conclusions

Key requirements

PhD in Electrical engineering, Physics or Applied Physics with 4+ years in integrated photonics
Experience identifying system-level needs and technology development requirements
Experience designing and specifying photonic integrated circuits
Experience with numerical methods (FDTD, EME, FEM) and optics modeling software (e.g., Lumerical)
Experience with experimental evaluation of PICs
Experience with PIC manufacturing and interactions with foundries
