In this role you lead the afternoon shift in a manufacturing facility, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are met. You guide a team of about 10, oversee equipment and shift schedules, and secure the plant at shift change. A short training period on day shift helps you understand the plant. You contribute to continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and quality while partnering with operations leadership to deliver results.

Responsibilities

Promote safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance
Complete pre-shift risk assessments and PPE checks; support safety incident investigations
Oversee shift manufacturing activities, meet production and quality targets on schedule
Monitor workflow, implement productivity improvements, and reduce downtime
Prepare shift reports and ensure secure plant handover and documentation
Lead, coach, and develop the shift team; manage performance, attendance, and disciplinary actions
Collaborate with Quality and Training teams to address training needs
Ensure equipment is maintained and materials available; minimize downtime
Foster an inclusive, engaging work environment and address team concerns
Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, productivity, and quality
Maintain quality standards and document deviations; work with Quality team on corrective actions
Manage shift-related documentation and prepare for incoming shift
Plan for holidays and ensure coverage with a deputy to maintain continuity
Organize team briefings and feedback forums to align with plant goals

Key requirements

ILM Level 3 or equivalent qualification
IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
Experience in an ISO9001 environment
Minimum 3 years in a supervisory/management role in manufacturing
Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience
Proven team management and performance-improvement track record
Experience with lean manufacturing processes
Strong IT skills, especially Microsoft Office
First Aider certification or willingness to train
FLT (forklift) license or willingness to train
Fire Warden certification or willingness to train
