Experteer Overview

You will lead and advance tailings engineering initiatives within SLR’s Mine Waste Engineering team. You will oversee TSF design, construction, operation, and monitoring, acting as an Engineer of Record or Deputy EOR where applicable, while mentoring staff and growing the group’s capabilities. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with client management and business development in a global mining context. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, and innovative tailings solutions and help expand the MWE portfolio.

Responsibilities

Audit, review, design, construction, and remediation of tailings structures across project stages (pre-feasibility to closure)
Undertake desk-based studies and due diligence reviews
Conduct Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) and Dam Safety Inspections (DSIs)
Project management and coordination; report and proposal writing
Mentor staff and grow the team; travel to sites
Client facing; identify and develop new opportunities
Provide clear, business-focused findings and options for clients; collaborate to meet timelines and budgets

Key requirements

Tailings Storage Facilities design, construction, surveillance, and monitoring experience with EOR or Deputy EOR
Minimum 15 years of tailings experience
Professional Engineer license in the US and/or Canada, or eligible for registration
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
Strong communication and writing skills for proposals and technical reports
Proven project management, staffing mentorship, and business development abilities
Experience with multidisciplinary mining projects
Familiarity with GISTM, CDA, USSD, and ICOLD is preferred
