As a scientific leader in process chemistry, you will guide the design, development, and scale-up of syntheses for novel veterinary therapeutics. You will drive cross-functional collaboration, ensure regulatory-aligned impurity strategies, and lead technology transfer to manufacturing in a global setting. You shape strategic direction, champion innovative approaches, and mentor teams to deliver robust, economical processes with environmental responsibility. This role offers the chance to influence multiple projects and contribute to the company’s mission in animal health.

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, and scale-up of synthetic processes for veterinary therapeutics
Independently scale-up and optimize processes from mg to multi-kilogram quantities
Apply green chemistry principles to API process design and waste reduction
Develop impurity control strategies to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance
Provide strategic direction across multiple projects and act as a technical leader within the group
Lead technology transfer activities to commercial manufacturing facilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand impact of decisions on project progression
Prepare and review technical and regulatory documentation (CMC dossiers, development reports)
Develop and implement innovative strategies and tools for continuous process improvement
Drive digital transformation initiatives in Process Chemistry
Mentor and supervise colleagues, supporting career development
Represent the chemistry function on global research project teams and build external partnerships
Contribute to intellectual property strategy including small molecule filings

Key requirements

Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with at least 8 years in pharmaceutical or veterinary process chemistry R&D
At least 2 years of leadership experience managing teams or projects
Broad expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry with a track record of innovative solutions
Proficiency in literature searching (SciFinder, Reaxys) and compound characterization (HPLC, GC, NMR, UV, LC-MS)
Hands-on experience in process chemistry scale-up to multi-kilogram APIs and tech transfer
Experience with risk assessments (FMEA, mutagenic impurities, nitrosamines, PFAS, E&L)
Strong written and verbal communication with ability to influence cross-functional and external stakeholders
Working knowledge of ICH guidelines and cGMP requirements
Understanding of process safety regulations (OSHA, REACH) and regulatory compliance
Experience with automated reactors, DOE, and QbD concepts
Experience collaborating with CROs/CMOs/CDMOs in global settings
Knowledge of small molecule IP strategies and filings
