Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design elements of new product development within a multi-disciplined design team
- Define products and requirements to support customer needs
- Develop detailed design specifications and test plans
- Create creative conceptual designs to meet system requirements and product strategy
- Implement designs using latest materials, processes and manufacturing techniques to meet cost and schedule targets
- Design and analyze ruggedized mechanical packaging and interconnects using CAD/CAE tools
- Fabricate rapid prototypes, perform verification testing, and support transition to full production including supplier/start-up
- Support R&D and continuous process improvements
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision and communicate status to management
Key requirements
- U.S. Citizenship
- BSME or equivalent (MSME preferred)
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience
- Strong knowledge of DoD standards and practices (MIL-STD, ASTM, ANSI, FCC, UL, CE, RoHS, REACH, IPC)
- Experience leading design elements from concept to production with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of electronics packaging design
- Analytical problem-solving and ability to implement solutions
- Experience with production processes (machining, casting, injection molding, PCBs, cabling) and configuration management (BOMs, drawings, models)
- Experience with PLM/configuration management software, ideally PTC Windchill
- Experience with low/medium/high-volume manufacturing and cost-focused design
- Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools (Creo/ProEngineer or SolidWorks)
- Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, Project)
- Ability to deliver under pressure in fast-paced environments
- Ability to design for harsh environments (LW/P, LW)
