You will work within the Center for Bioelectronics to advance polymeric/ composite materials and smart films for implantable and wearable sensors. You will design and prototype devices, while evaluating material aging and compatibility in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Your role includes mentoring technicians and students, advancing project deliverables, and communicating results through publications and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process workflows for integrating organic materials into biosensor devices (polymeric/composite materials and molecularly imprinted polymers)
  • Design, document, and implement synthesis techniques for polymeric films and smart materials with multi-functionality
  • Prototype biosensors and bioelectronic devices, including circuit design for wireless implantable and wearable systems
  • Evaluate aging and compatibility of novel materials for implantable and wearable applications in collaboration with researchers
  • Mentor technicians and students in the lab
  • Collaborate across disciplines to advance device prototypes and translation towards practical impact

Key requirements

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or related field
  • Expertise in biomedical device prototype development with working knowledge of FDA 510(k) requirements
  • Strong technical background in developing implantable/wearable biosensor diagnostics and therapeutic devices
  • Outstanding written and oral communication evidenced by publications and conference presentations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with clear deliverables and timelines
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team (engineers, chemists, materials scientists)
  • Solid background in electrical circuits and microfabrication
  • Experience with wearable and implantable sensor development and associated circuit techniques
