Experteer Overview

As Patent Counsel, you will strengthen Hitachi Energy’s global IP team by shaping and protecting IP for our Sustainable Products portfolio (Transformers and High Voltage). You will draft, file and prosecute patent applications, and defend existing rights in collaboration with fellow counsels and external advisors. You will align filings with the IP roadmap, manage risk globally, and educate R&D teams on IP opportunities. This role offers impact across a global, technology-driven business and an opportunity to contribute to the energy transition. You will work with cross-functional teams and external partners to build a strategic IP portfolio.

Responsibilities

Advise on invention disclosures, identify IP opportunities, and align filings with strategy
Draft, file and prosecute patent applications; maintain and defend patent rights with external counsel
Manage external suppliers for technical and legal expertise, costs, and quality
Lead global risk management and monitor competitor IP protection for stakeholders
Educate and raise IP awareness; drive IP actions across R&D and strategy teams; deliver training materials
Contribute to initiatives to improve IP awareness and performance

Key requirements

Part or Newly-Qualified European Patent Attorney; degree in electrical engineering, electronics, physics or mechanical engineering
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a law firm or industry focusing on electrical and mechanical inventions
Experience with computer-implemented inventions advantageous
Strong analytical abilities and broad technical fluency across multiple domains
Flexible, self-driven, proactive; able to collaborate in a global, hybrid environment
Strong communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English
