As Operations Manager, you lead daily, high-volume automotive manufacturing operations to deliver safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. You partner with the Plant Manager to steer manufacturing execution, workforce management, and lean transformation across production, maintenance, logistics, and engineering. You drive continuous improvement, support new launches, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. This role offers impact through lean initiatives, cross-functional leadership, and strategic operational oversight.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations to meet SQDIPC targets
- Lead production, maintenance, logistics, and engineering for seamless plant performance
- Ensure adherence to production schedules and customer delivery requirements
- Act as Plant Manager in their absence
- Champion Lean, Six Sigma, and CI initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, standard work)
- Identify productivity improvements, waste reduction, and cost-saving actions
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for operational issues
- Establish a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 / ISO standards and drive quality performance
- Support audits, containment, and corrective actions with quality teams
- Support APQP, PPAP, and launch activities
- Promote zero-incident safety culture; lead safety programs and ensure regulatory compliance
- Maintain Alkegen safety standards and safety principles on site
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and department leaders
- Drive workforce planning, training, and succession planning
- Conduct regular coaching and annual performance appraisals
- Foster positive labor relations (union experience)
- Manage plant operating budgets and drive cost control
- Analyze KPIs and financial metrics to improve profitability
- Assist capital investment planning and execution
- Optimize labor efficiency and resource utilization
- Support new product launches and capacity expansions
- Collaborate with engineering and program management to meet timing and cost targets
- Ensure smooth ramp-up and operational readiness
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field
- 7–10 years in automotive manufacturing (Tier 1 preferred)
- 5+ years in leadership roles within plant operations
- Union environment experience
- Strong background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
- Launch experience with automotive OEM customers
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt)
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proven ability to drive operational performance and cultural change
- Financial acumen and data-driven mindset
- Knowledge of IATF 16949 quality system
