Responsibilities
- Lead the development, maintenance, and consistent application of drill and blast standards across underground and open pit operations
- Ensure alignment with explosives regulations, environmental requirements, and Zero Harm safety standards
- Partner with geotechnical, mine design, maintenance, and operations teams to improve planning integration and execution
- Analyze design parameters and performance data to improve fragmentation, over/underbreak, drill accuracy, wall control, consumable usage, and explosive product selection
- Advance adoption of modern drill navigation, instrumentation, and blast design technologies for repeatable excellence
- Drive continuous improvement through mine‑to‑mill initiatives, technical studies, and cost‑reduction opportunities
- Support training and capability building through field coaching and mentoring in Compass, NGM’s engineering development program
- Guide procurement and technology decisions to ensure cost‑effective, fit‑for‑purpose solutions
Key requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of mining experience with open pit and underground drill & blast exposure
- Excellent safety record and demonstrated safety leadership
- Pass ATF Employee Possessor background check
- Extensive knowledge of drill & blast design, explosives products, and field application
- Strong analytical capability and ability to prepare comprehensive reports and technical assessments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to explosives handling, environmental exposure, and contaminant management preferred
