As a Network Engineer (SME) you will design secure, scalable network solutions for complex environments, aligning with best practices and cost efficiency. You will shape the network architecture, oversee implementations, and produce build-to and as-built documentation. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to address security and performance challenges, driving high-availability and secure connectivity across LAN/WAN, VPNs, and firewall ecosystems. This role offers the chance to influence security posture and mentor others in a mission-driven, government-facing context.

Responsibilities

Define and maintain security posture across networks and upgrade security controls
Conduct security audits and implement improvements to strengthen posture
Oversee network installation, configuration of LAN/WAN equipment, firewalls, switches, routers, and related hardware
Create and edit build-to, as-built, implementation and test plans for IT equipment
Engage in system planning beyond the network for applications and systems using the network
Provide expert analysis of voice, video, and data networks, including OS and protocol evaluation
Plan network layouts and configure systems to user environments
Offer technical support across Tier I–III and mentor junior engineers
May lead technical teams or tasks with independence and self-motivation

Key requirements

15+ years of network engineering experience
TS/SCI with Poly clearance
Experience deploying Cisco, Palo Alto, or Juniper firewalls (multi-firewall environments)
Experience with IPsec site-to-site VPN using PKI (CA) and remote access VPN
12+ years configuring Cisco ASA/NGFW and 10+ years designing and maintaining LAN/WAN devices
Strong routing protocols knowledge (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IP/MPLS) and basic QoS understanding
Experience with network monitoring technologies
Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into technical solutions
Ability to collaborate with systems, storage, and application teams
Mentorship experience or potential to lead teams
Bachelor's in Engineering or related field, or equivalent 19 years of experience
