Senior Specialist / Project Manager
Experteer Overview
In this role you will collect geologic data, build and maintain models, and support exploration in an underground coal mining context. You will work closely with the Exploration & Geology Manager and cross-functional teams to translate field observations into maps, reports, and actionable insights. You’ll manage data for lithology, coal quality, and structure, supporting decision-making and safety studies. This is a hands-on position that combines field work, data analysis, and reporting to help optimize mining operations and environmental assessments.

Responsibilities
- In-mine geologic mapping and sampling (coal measured section, roof/floor lithology, longwall face profiles, fault mapping, seam discontinuities)
- Data management and entry for geologic modeling (lithology, coal quality, structure)
- Maintain accurate geologic models for mined seams with maps, grids, and reports
- Assist with in-mine exploration (conventional and HDD) and geophysical surveys
- Assist surface exploration (core drilling, core logging, geophysical surveys)
- Prepare geologic reports/maps; interpret data; recommend further study or action
- Consult with Sr. Geologist, operations, and engineering on exploration results
- Conduct environmental studies as needed
Key requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geophysics
- 1–5 years underground coal mining experience with diverse geological/engineering/exploration/survey background
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Carlson geologic modeling software
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to work independently in field, including GPS, mapping, and 4WD driving
- Ability to work underground and drive standard transmission vehicles
- Strong planning, time management, and self-motivation
- MSHA underground hazard training (pending)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
