In this Department Manager role, you drive unit operations to deliver safe, high-quality care and support patient satisfaction. You lead staffing, budgeting, and regulatory compliance while fostering shared decision making and professional development. You will shape performance improvement efforts and create a learning environment that supports evidence-based practice. This position offers impact across nursing units within a mission-driven health system and collaboration with the care team to achieve strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead staffing and scheduling across the department and ensure optimal utilization of personnel
- Develop, implement, and monitor budget for the defined area
- Ensure compliance with hospital, state, federal, and accreditation standards related to patient care and environment
- Recruit, select, and retain personnel; oversee orientation and credentialing
- Monitor nursing-sensitive indicators, core measures, HCAHPS, patient and associate satisfaction
- Develop and implement action plans for continuous performance improvement
- Foster a safe environment and promote evidence-based practice
- Promote shared decision making and empower associates through delegation and accountability
- Provide coaching, recognition, and performance improvement opportunities
- Build professional relationships with care team, patients, and families
- Lead change management and process improvement initiatives
- Coordinate education and development to maintain clinical competencies
Key requirements
- Current State of Michigan RN Licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Professional certification appropriate to practice, preferred
- Minimum 2 years of nursing lead, charge, or leadership experience
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience
- Associates degree in nursing; Bachelor in nursing within 3 years of hire; Masters degree in nursing, preferred
