In this role you will lead Aprio’s State Income Tax practice within the Specialty Tax group, driving strategic growth, profitability, and client service excellence. You’ll act as a market-facing leader for multistate income tax and collaborate with firm leadership to expand services and optimize operations. You will develop and mentor the team, manage major client engagements, and advance innovative SALT offerings. Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic vision and growth plan for the State Income Tax practice
  • Oversee client relationships and high‑impact engagements involving multistate issues (nexus, apportionment, unitary/combined reporting)
  • Drive revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion while managing staffing and budgets
  • Develop annual business plans, forecasts, and scalable processes in collaboration with Tax and Operations leaders
  • Lead and develop Directors, Senior Managers, and Managers to build a strong leadership pipeline
  • Represent the practice in business development activities and cross-sell across services

Key requirements

  • CPA required
  • 12+ years of progressive State and Local Tax experience in public accounting, consulting, or professional services
  • Deep technical expertise in multistate income tax compliance, apportionment, nexus studies, state tax planning, ASC 740 state tax considerations, and tax controversy matters
  • Proven track record managing large client relationships and complex engagements
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and driving business development and revenue growth
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship management skills
  • Experience managing practice financial performance (revenue, realization, leverage, profitability)
