Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of ML scientists and engineers in developing, fine-tuning, and deploying travel-domain LLMs
- Deploy LLMs at scale with low latency, optimizing performance and efficiency for real-time, high-traffic use cases
- Define and communicate the technical vision and strategy for LLM initiatives aligned with company goals
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the team
- Prioritize work in coordination with Product Managers and keep stakeholders aligned
- Translate ML vision into actionable plans and ensure timely delivery
- Develop innovative ML models, algorithms, and approaches or identify existing ones with business impact
- Design and execute applied research to build reusable frameworks
- Translate business problems into robust ML/AI solutions suitable for production
- Monitor product health, performance, and impact, addressing gaps as needed
- Identify cross-domain opportunities using structured thinking and logic
- Drive motivation and urgency while balancing long- and short-term goals
- Mentor others, communicate clearly, and evolve your ML practice with new technologies
- Contribute to Machine Learning initiatives at Booking.com through training, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring
- Improve ML tooling and infrastructure in collaboration with central teams
Key requirements
- 4+ years of leadership experience in ML teams within NLP or GenAI domains
- Advanced expertise in managing teams building and deploying LLMs with scalable, low-latency performance
- MSc with 6+ years or PhD with 4+ years applying ML to business challenges
- Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, AI, Physics)
- Strong research background related to NLP is advantageous
- End-to-end R&D experience from problem definition to deployment and monitoring
- Proven track record of delivering measurable business value via large-scale ML models
- Experience across data processing, model development, experimentation, visualization, optimization, and software development
- Cross-functional collaboration with Developers, UX, and Product Managers
- Strong programming and tooling knowledge: Python, Java, Kafka, Hadoop, SQL, Spark; version control
- Excellent English communication skills
