As Lead AI Research Engineer, you guide the practical exploration and deployment of cutting-edge AI technologies within AVEVA’s AI Investigation and Incubation team. You will prototype, benchmark, and validate AI/ML approaches to solve real-world industrial challenges, balancing research ambition with deployable, scalable systems. You will influence AI roadmaps and collaborate across functions to move concepts into products. This role offers a chance to shape impactful industrial AI at scale.

Responsibilities
- Research and evaluate emerging AI technologies for practical applicability and deployability
- Develop, fine-tune, evaluate, and benchmark AI/ML models
- Design and iterate on prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and pilots
- Assess scalability, reliability, cost, security, and operational feasibility of AI approaches
- Document architectural decisions for model deployment and integration
- Drive technical publications on AI research
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition proofs-of-concept to products
- Document findings and present actionable recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mentor and coach junior team members
Key requirements
- 10+ years of AI research and development or equivalent industry experience with at least 3 years in a technical lead role
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred
- Proven track record leading large-scale technical investigations or complex AI initiatives with measurable outcomes
- Expertise in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., Jax, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and state-of-the-art ML techniques
- Experience with modern AI paradigms (world models, foundation models, multi-modal language models); agent-based systems and orchestration; context retrieval and augmentation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences including senior leadership
- Ability to connect AI capabilities to practical industrial or enterprise use cases
