In this role you will lead Linux infrastructure initiatives to ensure stable, secure, and high-performing servers. You work with IT teams to design and operate Linux-based solutions, and drive automation to improve efficiency. You’ll manage 24x7 on-call support and contribute to security, backups, and disaster recovery. This position blends engineering with hands-on administration in a fast-paced retail technology environment.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and related software
Monitor performance and troubleshoot to ensure high availability
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design Linux-based solutions
Implement security measures and ensure regulatory compliance
Perform regular backups and disaster recovery procedures
Automate tasks using Bash or Python
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls
Install and maintain DNS, DHCP, and LDAP services
Troubleshoot software compatibility with developers and vendors
Evaluate hardware/software upgrades for performance and scalability
Manage VMware components (ESXi, clusters, vSphere, guests)
Conduct routine server hardware/software audits
Create and maintain system documentation and disaster recovery plans
Work independently, manage projects end-to-end

Key requirements

5+ years of Linux engineering experience
Strong knowledge of Linux distributions (Red Hat, SUSE, etc.)
Proficiency with CLI and scripting (Bash, Python, Perl)
Experience with configuration management/automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet)
Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Experience with VMware/vSphere virtualization
Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, NTP, VPN)
Storage and backup knowledge (RAID, SAN, NAS, Veeam, Rubrik)
Familiarity with RPMs and Linux packaging
Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Datadog, Dynatrace, Nagios, SolarWinds)
Security best practices on Linux systems
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Ability to work independently and in teams
On-call availability for 24x7 coverage
Detail-oriented and adaptable to new technologies
