As President and CSO you will shape Joslin’s scientific vision and strategic roadmap, aligning research, patient care, and education with the broader BILH ecosystem. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, drive translational diabetes science, and sustain Joslin’s independent clinical and scientific legacy while collaborating with BILH and HMS. This role combines scientific leadership with executive oversight to accelerate innovation, fundraising, and regulatory integrity. You will engage across clinical, research, and administrative functions to deliver transformative outcomes in diabetes care and discovery.

Responsibilities

Define and implement the scientific vision and long-term roadmap for Joslin
Integrate with BILH while preserving Joslin’s independent identity
Set strategic priorities with the Board and Senior Leadership
Oversee core departments (Research, Clinical Services, Fiscal Services, Fundraising, Commercial Ventures, Quality, Academia)
Oversee budget planning and fiscal stewardship with BILH finance
Lead executive leadership teams toward goals and performance benchmarks
Ensure compliance with ethical, regulatory, and institutional standards
Lead recruitment, retention, and mentorship of research faculty and staff
Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-functional programs
Collaborate with CMO, clinical teams, and BILH to strengthen patient care initiatives
Champion quality and safety aligned with BILH strategies while maintaining Joslin legacy
Manage financial commitments from BILH and external stakeholders for sustained innovation
Allocate resources to advance scientific objectives and growth
Drive philanthropic outreach and establish external funding pathways
Align scientific initiatives with enterprise-level business strategy and innovation goals
Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership and governing bodies

Key requirements

MD, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field
Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in academic medicine, diabetes research, or integrated health systems
Proven track record leading a world-class diabetes research program with scientific innovation and global collaboration
Experience leading complex, multi-institutional integration initiatives
Deep understanding of diabetes care delivery, translational research, and faculty development
