Experteer Overview
In this role, you lead the Information Services Planning Team to support transparent community planning and effective information sharing. You guide public engagement programs, MPIA coordination, and the digital information counter to serve residents and stakeholders. You collaborate with leadership, Planning Board, and community groups to simplify complex planning processes. You drive innovative communication strategies and ensure timely, accurate information across channels.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of three planning professionals and manage work programs and goals
- Oversee Community Planning Academy and serve as face of Montgomery Planning to participants
- Manage MPIA intake and coordinate with Communications and Legal departments
- Develop and maintain digital information counter and online information access
- Maintain regulatory review information in databases such as Hansen, ePlans, and Forest Conservation Database
- Provide quality control on customer service and work program execution
- Prepare documents and presentations for DRC meetings and post ahead of meetings
- Respond to public inquiries via in-person, online, and phone channels
- Streamline regulatory processes and develop annual fee schedules with Planning Board
- Prepare outreach materials and public-facing guides to explain planning processes
- Supervise and train staff in research best practices and timely information delivery
- Oversee department-wide training on information provision and best practices
- Manage incoming revenue, including application fees and escrow accounts, with regular CAS audits
- Attend meetings with leadership, Planning Board, and other bodies to report on team activities
- Present to diverse audiences and adapt communications for hard-to-reach groups
- Ensure accurate and timely responses to inquiries and maintain documentation and reporting
Key requirements
- Bachelor in Planning or related field + six years of progressive planning experience with supervisory or project leadership
- Ability to lead complex projects and teams
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
- Knowledge of Montgomery County codes and regulations (preferred)
- GIS knowledge (preferred)
- Valid driver's license (unknown if required in assignment area)
- Experience with MPIA processes and public information requests (preferred)
- Experience with database or case management platforms (e.g., Hansen, ePlans) (preferred)
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and manage cross-functional collaboration
