In this role you lead the Information Services Planning Team to support Montgomery Planning’s mission of community-informed planning. You will oversee engagement programs like the Community Planning Academy and manage MPIA-related communications, ensuring clear public information. You’ll guide complex projects, supervise a small team, and present to leadership and the Planning Board. This is a chance to shape how the department translates planning processes for residents and stakeholders, using innovative approaches and strong public-facing communication.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of three planning professionals and manage their work program and professional development
- Create and run Montgomery Planning's first virtual information counter and digitize documents for real-time public access
- Oversee Community Planning Academy, including recruitment, enrollment tracking, and serving as the program's face to residents
- Develop and manage a department-wide training program on research and information accuracy
- Manage incoming revenue and perform regular audits related to application fees and escrow accounts
- Maintain Regulatory Review Information in databases such as Hansen, ePlans, and the Forest Conservation Database
- Produce public-facing guides and materials to explain complex planning processes
- Oversee MPIA intake and coordinate with Communications and Legal staff to fulfill requests
- Provide quality control on customer service and information work within the team
- Prepare plans, agendas, and materials for DRC meetings and post documents online
- Respond to community questions across in-person, online, and phone channels
- Engage diverse audiences using best practices in communications
- Attend meetings and briefings with leadership, Planning Board, and other bodies
Key requirements
- Six (6) years of progressively responsible planning experience with supervisory or project leadership
- Strong knowledge of local Montgomery County codes and regulations
- Experience with GIS
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license without encumbrances (as required)
