In this role you lead Guardian’s UI Engineering and Design Systems to scale AI-driven interfaces across the digital ecosystem. You shape the Guardian Design System and engineering standards to ensure accessible, compliant, and consistent experiences. You connect design, data, and AI to turn the vision into scalable frontend solutions. You will drive enterprise-level UI architecture, governance, and cross-functional collaboration with product, data, and platform teams. Responsibilities

Define and execute the roadmap for AI-enabled UI engineering aligned with Guardian's digital, data, and AI strategy
Evolve the Guardian Design System (GDS) to support adaptive, personalized, and intelligent interfaces
Establish enterprise-wide engineering standards, metrics, and governance for GDS adoption, accessibility, and performance
Partner with product, data, and platform engineering to integrate AI capabilities into the frontend layer
Drive innovation at the intersection of AI, frontend engineering, and design systems
Embed Generative AI, Agentic AI, and contextual intelligence into the UI layer for adaptive experiences
Introduce AI-augmented engineering workflows including design-to-code automation and intelligent testing
Advance frontend architecture for scalability, accessibility, and continuous delivery
Lead and develop a team of UI engineers fostering excellence, curiosity, and innovation
Build up-skill and future-skill pathways to deepen AI fluency and design-system mastery
Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment that values experimentation, quality, and learning
Represent UI engineering in forums on digital transformation, AI ethics, and frontend governance
Champion AI-driven experience engineering as a differentiator in Guardian’s experiences

Key requirements

12+ years of front-end/UI engineering experience
5+ years leading enterprise-scale design-system teams
Proven success integrating AI or machine-learning into frontend or design-system development
Deep expertise in modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Vue), accessibility, and CI/CD pipelines
Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and influence across design, product, and engineering functions
