In this Head of Finance Operations role, you will lead NHSBT’s financial engine to ensure robust, compliant and efficient high-value transactions across income, expenditure, and cash management. You will blend strategic oversight with deep ERP and systems expertise, shaping end-to-end transactional processes and influencing new ERP implementations. You will collaborate with Finance, Commercial and Digital leaders to drive continuous improvement and deliver trusted financial services in support of NHSBT’s life-saving mission. This is a national, hybrid role with travel across England and opportunities to impact governance and reporting at scale.

Responsibilities

Own oversight of income and expenditure streams (approx. 650m income, 300m expenditure) and core P2P processes ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and compliance
Act as operational SME for Oracle e-Business Suite and transactional interfaces including BACS; shape processes to support efficient capture, reporting, and decision-making; lead ERP implementation
Embed robust financial controls across transactional processes in line with standards, IFRS, HMRC, audits and best practice
Partner with senior managers across Finance, Commercial, Digital and wider business to continuously improve end-to-end transactional processes, data quality and reporting
Lead a team of 16 staff (including 4 direct reports) delivering operational financial services and statutory outputs, contributing to Annual Report

Key requirements

Knowledge and experience of transactional, operational and strategic financial management in a large multi-disciplinary organisation
Significant line and team management experience
Extensive experience in report writing, process documentation and business cases
Experience translating financial accounting requirements into scalable transactional processes with strong controls and audit trails
Experience across cross-discipline business process inter-relationships (manufacturing, warehousing, service supply chain)
Experience of process improvement methodologies and delivering improvements
Experience designing and managing best-practice financial transaction processes and KPIs at Board level
Advanced knowledge of ETL data processes, Power Query, VBA, SQL and management of interfaces
Experience managing operation and change of large complex financial ledgers or ERP systems
Negotiating process changes in challenging environments
