In this role you will support Jensen Hughes’s fire engineering and survey teams by conducting on-site inspections and surveys across the UK and Ireland. You’ll assess compliance with fire safety legislation during construction and operation, produce high-quality technical reports, and help manage client relationships. The role combines field surveys, reporting, and knowledge sharing within a multidisciplinary safety team. You’ll work closely with cross-functional colleagues to drive compliant, safe building outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement of our fire safety services.
Responsibilities
- Carry out active and passive fire protection systems surveys and prepare technical reports
- Assess compliance with Irish and UK fire safety standards (TGDB, BS 9991/9999, etc.)
- Maintain and update passive fire protection knowledge base
- Inspect construction sites for Fire Safety Certificate compliance per plan
- Produce timely technical reports highlighting on-site issues
- Review contractor responses and oversee close-out of items
- Assist in licenced premises fire risk and liquor licensing inspections
- Perform external façade assessments per industry standards
- Oversee third-party fire stopping and compartmentation installations
- Conduct visual fire doors surveys
- Manage own client base and exceed expectations
- Provide in-house CPD presentations and share industry guidance for continuous improvement
- Travel to client sites for surveys and meetings with overnight stays as required
Key requirements
- Degree in Building Surveying or similar discipline
- Full Irish driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Basic understanding of fire safety design for different building types
- Experience with external wall surveys desirable but not essential
- Experience with fire compartmentation surveys desirable but not essential
- Ability to author technical reports using bespoke digital software and Microsoft Word
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload
- Willingness to develop skills within the team
- Basic knowledge of fire risk assessment and hazards in the built environment
- Knowledge of construction methods, external wall materials and cavity barriers
- Knowledge of internal passive fire protection products and fire testing regimes
- Knowledge of refurbishment schemes and contractor liaison on-site
