In this role you will oversee daily operations and maintenance of the hospital’s physical infrastructure, ensuring all systems, equipment, and grounds perform reliably. You lead facilities staff, maintenance technicians, and contractors to support safe, compliant, patient‑centered care. You manage preventive maintenance, respond to facility emergencies, and collaborate with clinical teams to minimize service interruptions. You will help drive safety, quality, and operational efficiency while aligning with the hospital’s mission to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities
- Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance; prioritize tasks to safeguard patient care continuity
- Monitor and report on structures and equipment, keeping work areas clean and organized
- Ensure unit-specific care standards are considered in maintenance activities
- Document work details, materials, time, and approvals per facility standards
- Understand and respond to code designations and hospital safety protocols
- Manage inventory—storing, labeling, and disposing items properly
- Provide timely customer/patient services and facilitate clear communication among caregivers
- Support training and onboarding of maintenance staff, vendors, and students
- Contribute to department quality assurance, incident reporting, and investigations as needed
- Participate in special projects and provide administrative support to the department leadership
- Review and adjust shift staffing to meet department needs and resource availability
- Assess staff capabilities for security-related maintenance tasks and delegate accordingly
- Identify training needs and trends to inform department development plans
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies and standards
Key requirements
- Associate Degree or post-secondary vocational education in industrial or facilities maintenance (preferred)
- 3-5 years of experience in facilities management in a healthcare setting (required)
- Journeyman skill level in industrial/commercial maintenance (required)
- Working familiarity with JCAHO accreditation standards (preferred)
- 1-2 years of supervisory or lead tech experience (preferred)
- Proficiency in reading/writing English at least to eighth grade level
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; strong communication and scheduling abilities
