In this Estimating Manager role, you will oversee the group’s estimating and tender activity, guiding bids for civils and building projects. You will lead a team, shape tender strategies, and ensure robust, first-principles estimates for large opportunities. The position sits at senior level, driving growth through major tenders and cross-functional collaboration with Construction, Delivery, Commercial and Design teams. Responsibilities
- Taking overall responsibility for estimating and tender function across the group
- Leading the preparation and submission of tenders across civils and building projects
- Building detailed estimates from first principles
- Leading larger and more complex bids and developing tender strategies
- Reviewing tender pipeline and supporting bid/no-bid decisions
- Managing and supporting Estimators to ensure thorough bids in line with procedures
- Reviewing budgets and forecasts to align tender activity with business objectives
- Identifying risks and opportunities throughout the tender process
- Working with Construction, Delivery, Commercial and Design teams during tenders
- Supporting project teams with technical information for tenders and pre-qualifications
- Ensuring estimates are reviewed and signed off prior to submission
- Supporting Commercial team with information for final terms and contracts
- Maintaining and developing tender information, processes and documentation
- Supporting development and growth of the estimating team
Key requirements
- 10-15 years of estimating experience in the construction industry
- Strong experience across civil engineering and building projects
- Experience estimating concrete works, structures and/or bridges
- Ability to produce detailed estimates from first principles
- Experience managing larger tenders (5m-10m)
- 5-10 years leading Estimating teams
- Strong commercial understanding with ability to identify tender risks and opportunities
- Contractor experience preferred; consultancy/client-side also considered
- HNC, degree, or equivalent preferred
- Strong IT skills, especially Excel and Word
- Full UK driving licence
- Rail experience beneficial but not essential
