As Environmental Engineer, you will oversee environmental compliance and engineering across multiple facilities, advancing sustainability within a fast-paced, farmer-owned co-op. You’ll partner with R&D, operations, and supply chain to optimize environmental systems and support ESG goals. You’ll drive permits, audits, and environmental reporting to ensure regulatory compliance and sustainable performance. This role offers the chance to shape environmental practices at a national scale while aligning with our grower-owned mission.

Responsibilities
- Oversee environmental compliance programs across multiple facilities and jurisdictions
- Lead preparation, submission, and renewal of environmental permits (air, water, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste)
- Maintain current, accurate EHS permits for operational compliance
- Provide technical oversight for environmental systems (e.g., wastewater treatment)
- Review/approve environmental designs, consultant reports, and capital projects impacting compliance
- Maintain environmental prevention and management plans (SPCC, SWPPP, Wastewater O&M)
- Develop and maintain environmental management systems (ISO 14001)
- Monitor environmental performance metrics (waste, water, emissions, energy)
- Drive sustainability initiatives (waste reduction, water conservation, emissions reduction, packaging)
- Support carbon footprint reduction and ESG reporting (Scope 1-3, GHG)
- Collaborate with R&D, operations, and supply chain to improve environmental performance
- Conduct environmental audits, inspections, risk assessments
- Ensure regulatory reporting is timely and accurate
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions
- Train employees on environmental compliance and best practices
- Collaborate with EHS, engineering, and plant leadership to embed standards
- Provide technical guidance for new product launches, process changes, and capital projects
Key requirements
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting (EPA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA)
- Technical expertise in environmental systems (wastewater, air emissions, stormwater, hazardous materials)
- Understanding of environmental compliance programs, audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting
- Knowledge of SPCC, SWPPP, Wastewater O&M
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations across multiple facilities/jurisdictions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
- Project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication, including technical reporting
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders in manufacturing
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in environmental engineering within a manufacturing environment
