As an Embedded Software Engineer at Viasat, you will contribute to a fast-paced, cross-functional team building encrypted communications hardware and software. You will design and implement embedded C/C++ software for secure network encryptors and related devices, interfacing with system, test, and hardware engineers. You’ll work across Linux-based environments, kernel drivers, bare-metal drivers, and network protocols to enable secure, high-speed communications. This role offers impact through shaping next-generation encryptors for government enterprise networks, with opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and locations. Responsibilities

Design and implement embedded software in C/C++
Develop on Linux in embedded environments
Configure and work with TCP/IP and network settings
Linux kernel driver development/modifications
Bare-metal embedded device drivers familiarity
Work with microprocessors (NIOS, ARM, RISC-V, etc.)
RESTConf interface design and implementation
Emulation environments
Networking protocols (IPSec, MACsec, TLS, etc.)
Python development
Develop standalone embedded applications
Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams
contribute to the Next Generation Encryptor (NGE) High-Speed encryptor program for government enterprise networks

Key requirements

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
At least 5 years design and implementation experience with embedded software in C/C++
At least 2 years Linux OS use, ideally for an embedded environment
Experience using Rust
Basic understanding of TCP/IP and common network configuration
Object-oriented software development experience
Agile Scrum development experience
Ability to plan, track, and report on progress
CI/CD software
Good oral and written communication skills
US citizenship and an active SECRET (or higher) security clearance
Ability to travel up to 10%
