In this role you will provide financial leadership and analysis to support divisional management within a major NHS Trust. You will lead budgeting, forecasting, and month-end reporting, partnering with operational managers to enable informed decisions. You’ll oversee financial planning for divisions, coach budget holders, and drive financial improvement across the management accounting team. The position blends strategic advisory with hands-on financial delivery in a high-demand healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

Lead the financial performance management and business planning function to deliver strategic objectives with timely, accurate data
Drive change and engage stakeholders to position the finance function as a leading provider in healthcare
Provide expert leadership for information management tools and processes (including SLR) to meet financial objectives
Perform complex financial modelling and cross-divisional options appraisal
Advise management on financial progress, risks, and decisions with ongoing support to directors and senior managers
Plan and coordinate budget setting for assigned divisions within deadlines
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for committees, Trust Board and NHS Improvement
Train budget holders through formal training events ensuring compliance with Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, Scheme of Delegation and policies

Key requirements

CCAB Qualified Accountant
In-depth management accounting experience, including post-qualification
Experience of annual business planning processes
Staff line management experience (motivating and developing staff)
High level of computer literacy and experience of financial software
NHS experience desirable, preferably in a foundation Trust in a senior financial role
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to persuade and influence people
