Senior Specialist / Project Manager

In this senior role, you will design and oversee distribution engineering projects for electrical power systems, mentoring junior staff and ensuring safe, compliant outcomes. You’ll work within TRC’s Power Distribution Engineering team to deliver costed designs, field data acquisition, and construction oversight for diverse projects. You will coordinate GIS/WMS data, analyze alternatives, and review contractor performance to meet project goals. This position offers exposure to a broad range of utilities and industries, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, quality, and career development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design and budget estimates for electrical distribution systems
  • Specify equipment, evaluate proposals, and requisition components
  • Conduct engineering calculations to ensure safety and performance
  • Collect on-site measurements and field data for design and evaluation
  • Manage distribution design in GIS/WMS and ensure documentation quality
  • Mentor and train entry-level staff and review their designs
  • Monitor construction to ensure conformance with plans and codes
  • Assist in contractor invoice evaluation and economic analyses
  • Prepare reports and feasibility studies for management review
  • Serve as project coordinator or project engineer on assigned projects
  • Promote clear information flow and accurate record keeping
  • Stay current with ANSI, GO95, company and client standards
  • Navigate and review within PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
  • Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by project guidelines
  • Perform other departmental duties as required

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil/Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of transmission or distribution engineering experience
  • California P.E. Civil license required
  • Proficiency with Excel and line/structure modeling; PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control proficiency
  • Familiarity with NESC and/or GO95
  • Knowledge of electric utility industry standards and practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated initiative and leadership
  • Attention to detail
