As a Distinguished Software Engineering Lead, you will provide technical vision and hands-on leadership to design, secure, and scale mission-critical software and data platforms. You’ll bridge software teams, products, and business objectives to deliver interoperable, cloud-native solutions that meet accreditation and security requirements. You will mentor engineers, set architectural standards, and contribute directly to system design and implementation. This role offers impact across cross-domain environments, from cloud to on-prem enclaves, shaping long-term innovation.

Responsibilities

Architect and deploy secure, distributed platforms for modular, multi-service environments
Design and integrate APIs, microservices, and data pipelines for interoperability across mission, simulation, and analytical systems
Define architectural principles, modularity standards, and best practices across teams
Bridge cloud, on-prem, and classified enclaves ensuring interoperability and compliance
Engineer cloud-native solutions in AWS GovCloud or hybrid IL4-IL6 environments with strict security and accreditation requirements
Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) to automate provisioning and accreditation workflows
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with embedded security, compliance, and automated testing
Ensure platform designs support zero-trust, multi-enclave deployment, and repeatable ATO processes
Design or oversee large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration (Kafka, Airflow, Spark, Databricks)
Shape data architectures balancing throughput, latency, and cost across distributed environments
Enable secure data access across analytical, AI-enabled, and simulation workloads
Transition software from prototype to production with maintainability and observability
Establish automated testing, release governance, and performance monitoring for sustainment
Collaborate with program and product leadership to align delivery with mission lifecycle requirements
Engineer architectures for redundancy and resilience in degraded or disconnected conditions
Design secure enclave architectures, boundary controls, and cross-domain integration
Support ATO and accreditation automation with cybersecurity and ISSM teams
Integrate emerging technologies and open standards into operational systems
Collaborate with AI/ML, data, and simulation teams for model integration in production
Evaluate new tools and frameworks to boost developer productivity and automation
Lead by example as a technical authority and mentor engineers to raise standards
Communicate complex concepts to executives and engineering stakeholders

Key requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
10-15 years of progressive software engineering experience
At least 5 years in technical leadership or architecture
Proven success architecting and deploying secure, distributed, cloud-native platforms
Deep experience with AWS GovCloud or IL4-IL6 hybrid environments
Hands-on proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK and CI/CD automation
Strong understanding of DevSecOps, zero-trust principles, and accreditation processes (ATO/RMF)
Demonstrated ability to operate software from prototype through secure accreditation
Strong coding experience in Python, Java, C++, or TypeScript
Active Secret clearance required; TS/SCI strongly preferred
