In this Lead Tax Expert role, you will oversee complex tax filings and audits for a mix of SEC and privately held clients. You’ll guide the A&A Department, mentor staff, and drive high-quality tax planning and client service. You will act as a domain expert, lead engagements, and liaise with tax authorities when needed. This position offers a clear path to Partnership and a focus on impactful, strategic tax work with a respected West Los Angeles firm.

Responsibilities

  • Review and endorse tax filings and government audits of varying complexity
  • Serve as a domain expert in a discipline or sector
  • Oversee client service tasks and ensure timely, on-budget delivery
  • Take accountability for larger tax returns and supervise preparers
  • Participate in client meetings and tax planning initiatives for major clients
  • Mentor tax experts and A&A staff on tax issues
  • Manage client service obligations for assigned clients and those delegated by a Partner
  • Communicate regulatory changes to staff
  • Manage government tax audits and represent clients before tax authorities when needed
  • Assist in recruiting, performance evaluations, and staff training
  • Oversee billing and collections processes
  • Stay updated on tax principles and evolving legislation
  • Support firm growth through referrals and industry initiatives
  • Trains and evaluates tax department staff
  • Occasional travel and peak-season overtime

Key requirements

  • Seven to ten years of public accounting experience with increasing tax complexity
  • At least two years representing clients before tax authorities
  • At least one year supervising tax preparers
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Master's in taxation is a plus
  • Forty hours of annual continuing education
  • Active CPA license in good standing with AICPA
