As Director of Technology Development, you will guide the CTO’s technology roadmap and drive government R&D funding for a Los Angeles wireless company. You will oversee the technical delivery of R&D programs, mentor a diversified engineering team, and influence the IP strategy. You will lead proposals and engage in BD activities, demonstrations, and customer interactions. This role bridges government and commercial markets, aligning technical priorities with growth and IP expansion.

Responsibilities

Interface with external funding organizations and attend networking events
Lead white paper and proposal development leading to contract awards
Identify technical development priorities and help implement roadmaps with CTO and VP of Engineering
Participate in business development activities such as experiments and customer meetings
Grow, manage, and mentor engineering staff as part of BD and program execution
Grow the company’s IP portfolio as part of BD and execution efforts

Key requirements

PhD in Electrical Engineering is preferred
MS in Electrical Engineering is required
Minimum 7 years of wireless communications systems design experience post-PhD
Experience with customer engagement focusing on government sector
Hands-on management experience in wireless system design with MATLAB and C
Knowledge of RF sensing, signal analysis, and related signal processing; ML knowledge a plus
Secret clearance is a plus
