In this role you will lead the enterprise AI governance program, shaping policies, standards, and risk assessments to ensure compliant AI use across the organization. You will partner with Legal, Product, Engineering, GIS, and Compliance to embed governance practices while enabling responsible innovation. You will translate evolving AI regulations into practical guidance and mentor teams on AI-enabled tools. Your work supports regulatory readiness, data governance, and privacy protections at scale, impacting how eBay leverages AI in a responsible way.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive AI governance framework with policies and risk methodologies
  • Create and manage an enterprise AI inventory/registry and AI risk classification
  • Monitor and interpret global AI regulations (EU AI Act, US state laws, etc.) and advise on compliance
  • Conduct AI risk assessments and privacy impact analyses for AI applications
  • Integrate AI governance with privacy and data lifecycle management (training data, model docs, retention)
  • Draft and negotiate advertising/data partnership agreements (DPAs, privacy exhibits, data use restrictions)
  • Provide mentorship and governance training to business units and leadership
  • Engage internal partners and external regulators/standards bodies to advance AI governance practices

Key requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active license to practice in at least one US state
  • 10+ years in privacy, compliance, legal, or technology policy roles; at least 3 years in AI/ML governance or emerging tech regulation
  • Deep knowledge of global privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and their interaction with AI
  • Strong understanding of EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, and evolving US AI regulations
  • Experience developing governance frameworks, policies, and compliance programs
  • Understanding of AI/ML technologies, applications, risks, and data governance principles
  • Experience with data lifecycle management and automated decision-making considerations
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration and influence across large organizations
