In this role you lead the Human Resources and Employee Health functions, guiding policy, labor relations, benefits, and training to support a 1,100-employee hospital. You partner with the Executive Team to align HR programs with the medical center’s mission and performance improvements. You’ll manage compliance with federal/state laws and TJC requirements while driving cost-effective, high-quality care. This position offers influence across operations, staff development, and labor relations in a complex healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee HR department operations and staff
- Administer personnel policies, salary administration, benefits, and labor relations
- Manage union contracts, grievances, arbitration, and negotiations
- Direct workers’ compensation programs, claims handling, and cost control
- Ensure compliance with federal/state/local laws and TJC requirements
- Lead training and development, succession planning, and conflict resolution
- Support recruiting, retention, and equal opportunity employment
- Counsel facility management on wage, hour, and labor relations issues
- Participate in contract negotiations and ensure fair disciplinary actions
- Maintain AQMD program administration and facility-wide HR processes
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, HR management, or related area
- Eight years of management experience in HR, healthcare experience preferred
- Three years hospital HR experience as a generalist
- Union/labor relations experience required
- Knowledge of labor laws at multiple levels
- HR/Payroll systems proficiency
- Budgeting knowledge
- TJC experience
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
