Responsibilities
- Advise staff on legal matters and interpret laws, regulations, and policies
- Advise county and district attorneys on legal matters
- Provide agency representation in court and handle trials for most cases
- Prepare cases for trial and supervise trial proceedings
- Deliver legal training to agency staff and the legal community
- Coordinate specialized legal efforts with subject matter experts
- Prepare or supervise legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and reports
- Assist in establishing and coordinating office systems
- Promote respect for cultural diversity
- Attend work regularly as per leave policy
Key requirements
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- Graduated from an accredited law school
- Experience in civil law, family law, or child welfare law preferred
