Responsibilities

Advise staff on legal matters and interpret laws, regulations, and policies
Advise county and district attorneys on legal matters
Provide agency representation in court and handle trials for most cases
Prepare cases for trial and supervise trial proceedings
Deliver legal training to agency staff and the legal community
Coordinate specialized legal efforts with subject matter experts
Prepare or supervise legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and reports
Assist in establishing and coordinating office systems
Promote respect for cultural diversity
Attend work regularly as per leave policy

Key requirements

Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
Graduated from an accredited law school
Experience in civil law, family law, or child welfare law preferred

Clear and effective communication of complex legal ideas Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with legal stakeholders Ability to synthesize law, rules, and policies to reach clear interpretations Judgment and advisory mindset under pressure Knowledge of family law and civil practice Ability to synthesize law, administrative rules, agency policies, and best practices
