As the district’s senior financial leader, you will guide fiscal strategy and oversight to support Weldon City Schools’ mission and student achievement. You will partner with the Superintendent, Board, and school leaders to shape budgets, grants, and financial operations with integrity and transparency. You’ll lead forecasting, policy development, and internal controls to ensure sustainable resources. This role offers meaningful impact through strategic enterprise-wide financial management.

Responsibilities

Serve as the district's chief financial advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Education
Provide strategic leadership for all financial operations and long-range financial planning
Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
Advise on financial implications of strategic initiatives and programs
Lead financial forecasting and multi-year budget planning
Ensure compliance with Board policies, North Carolina General Statutes, and federal regulations
Promote transparency, accountability, and stewardship of public funds
Direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual operating, capital, and grant budgets
Collaborate with district administrators and school leaders in budget planning and resource allocation
Monitor expenditures and revenues to ensure fiscal stability
Prepare budget amendments and provide fiscal recommendations
Analyze financial trends and prepare reports for informed decision-making
Identify opportunities to maximize funding sources and improve efficiency
Oversee accounting functions (GL, payroll, A/P, cash management, reporting)
Maintain internal controls and safeguarding of assets
Oversee school-based financial operations for district-wide compliance
Supervise Payroll Specialist and Accounts Payable Clerk
Provide leadership, coaching, and performance evaluations for Finance staff
Establish departmental goals aligned with district priorities
Foster professionalism, integrity, and fiscal responsibility across the department
Coordinate district audits and ensure timely financial reporting
Collaborate on federal program and grant management
Prepare financial reports and present to the Board
Attend Board meetings and communicate financial information
Promote transparency in financial management

Key requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
Minimum five years of progressively responsible financial management experience
Experience in public school finance or governmental accounting preferred
Experience budgeting and supervising financial personnel
Experience with NC public school finance practices preferred
Licensure/certification: NC School Business Administrator preferred or willingness to obtain; CPA/CGFM or related certification preferred
