In this role you will own the underwriting and management of a complex portfolio, ensuring profitability and growth aligned with the business plan. You will collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal teams to price, structure, and bind coverage while maintaining strict underwriting discipline. You will lead portfolio development, supervise junior underwriters, and contribute to strategic market decisions. This position offers scale, cross-functional interaction, and opportunities to shape risk selection and client partnerships.

Responsibilities
- Execute the business plan for portfolio development and expansion
- Prioritize submissions to maximize profitability within targets
- Review and analyze underwriting submissions, slips, and contracts
- Price, structure, and quote coverage with appropriate terms
- Collaborate with Actuarial staff to meet profitability targets
- Authorize quotes, binders, and invoices as appropriate
- Negotiate with brokers and clients for new and renewal business
- Oversee underwriting assistants to ensure data accuracy in the in-house system
- Conduct pre-quote and mid-term underwriting audits
- Review portfolio development against projections quarterly
- Report to manager on submissions and portfolio status
- Develop relationships with existing and new clients to grow the book
- Attend industry events, conferences, and client meetings
- Liaise with Brokers, Auditors, Claims, Accounting, IT, and Legal departments
Key requirements
- Bachelor in unknown
- Professional designation such as CPCU, ACII or similar preferred
- 10-15 years underwriting experience
- Established broker/market/company relationships
- Track record in reinsurance placements
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
- Willingness to work outside normal hours
